Earlier this afternoon, it was announced that Sakura-Con is cancelling their 2021 convention as a result of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic according to a post on Twitter.

Attendees who had pre-purchased memberships can use them for the 2022 event.

Sakura-Con is not the only event affected as multiple conventions were scuttled over fears that crowded halls could allow the virus to spread exponentially. Anime conventions are notorious for “con crud” where attendees try to maximize their time on the floor, leaving hygiene, rest and nutrition as an after thought.

Normally held during the Easter long weekend, Sakura-Con had previously called off their 2020 show just as the coronavirus began its disruption across North America.
