Sony has announced they will continue to offer PS3 and PS Vita titles and content through the PlayStation Store in a U-turn decision that originally would end support for the older consoles this summer.
Remarks posted to the official PlayStation.Blog from Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that after making the “wrong decision”, they will be “keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices” after fielding plenty of complaints from avid gamers.
The about face was started after Sony revealed their intentions to end support for PS3 and PS Vita consoles on Friday, August 27th, 2021 in order to concentrate on supporting the PS4, PS5 and VR systems. Fans who enjoyed older games not offered on the newest generation devices were upset over this plan.
The PS3 was first released in 2006, followed by the PSP Vita in 2012.
Gamers who own an older PSP hand held console, are out of luck as the store will no longer offer content as of Friday, July 2nd, 2021.
