The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom gives boost to aging Nintendo Switch

Just three days after the May 12th launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo is celebrating some of the milestones the game has surpassed in such a short span. This is the latest title released on the six year-old Nintendo Switch video game system.

According to a press release by Nintendo, as of May 15th, 2023, the game sold 10 million copies globally, making it the fastest-selling The Legend of Zelda title ever; 4 million of those were purchased in the Americas, capturing the title of fastest-selling Nintendo game for any system in the region.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, also for the Nintendo Switch. Taking an already expansive rendition of the world of Hyrule, Tears of the Kingdom adds more realms to explore with more things for fans to discover and experience. And if the Internet has anything to say, players have created some “unique” contraptions using the in-game construction mechanics, striking fear into the hearts of Bokoblins, Moblins, Hinox, Lynels, and even hapless Koroks.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on all Nintendo Switch family consoles, for a suggested retail price of $89.99 CAD. A number of accessories were made available in the weeks leading up to the game’s launch, including an amiibo, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, carrying case and a Legend of Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch OLED console.
