Fans watching the English or Spanish dubs of hit anime series Solo Leveling may recognize a famous voice. J Balvin has joined to voice a yet-unnamed major character appearing in Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise From the Shadow- later this season.

“I’m beyond thrilled to join the cast of Solo Leveling! This series has such a passionate fanbase and getting the chance to be part of the anime world, after being a fan for such a long time, is an absolute honor,” said J Balvin in a press release from Crunchyroll, which holds the streaming rights to the series. This is the first time the artist has performed as a voice actor.

Born in Medellín, Colombia, J Balvin has become a global sensation, selling over 35 million records and earning a spot among the Top 10 most streamed artists worldwide. Known as the Prince of Reggaeton, he was nominated for a 2025 GRAMMY® Award for his sixth studio album, Rayo. Beyond his musical talents, J Balvin is deeply passionate about fashion, art, and mental health advocacy. Through his initiative Vibra En Alta, he seeks to raise awareness and offer support to the Latin community.

Solo Leveling is a South Korean web novel written by Chugong; it was adapted into a manhwa illustrated by DUBU in 2018; then followed by an anime which premiered globally on Crunchyroll in 2024. A documentary, also available on Crunchyroll, explores the show’s journey from novel into anime and its popularity with fans worldwide.

The anime is directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, with character designs by Tomoko Sudo, monster designs by Hirotaka Tokuda, music composition by Hiroyuki Sawano, and animation production by A-1 Pictures and motion graphics by Production I.G.

Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise From the Shadow- premiered on January 4^th, 2025.
