Nintendo reveals leads of Zelda film and 2027 release date

Posted to Nintendo’s official Twitter/X account, The Legend of Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced the actress and actor playing Link and Princess Zelda in the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film.

English actress Bo Bragason was confirmed as Princess Zelda, has appeared recently in the 2024 flick The Radleys as Clara Radley and as Roxy Trotter in the series Renegade Nell.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, also from England, will portray Link. Ainsworth is known for roles as Mark Critch in Son of a Critch, and as Lester Smart in the 2025 film Everything’s Going to Be Great.

Miyamoto added that he was “looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.” The storied game designer is working as a producer on the film, together with Avi Arad.

The untitled feature is scheduled to premiere in theatres on May 7th, 2027.

In a previous statement from 2023, it was published that Wes Ball was chosen as director. Nintendo and Sony will share financing responsibilities for production, with Nintendo fronting half of the cost; Sony will also handle worldwide theatrical distribution.

The Japanese gaming giant is banking upon the success of the 2023 animated The Super Mario Bros. Movie with a live-action take of another of their best selling franchises. That movie raked in $1,362,015,510 USD globally.
