Sturgeon Moon

A Sturgeon Moon is seen rising between trees in the early evening sky over Qualicum Beach on Friday, August 8th, 2025.

Appearing larger than normal, this moon is named after the giant sturgeons that inhabit the freshwater lakes and rivers of North America. Summer was traditionally when the First Nations caught these ancient beasts, when they were in their prime for harvest.

I captured the moon at approximately 9:30 pm with my Nikon D610 set at ISO-50, f/29, with a 0.77 second exposure at a focal length of 300 mm.
