Billed as the world’s largest rice field art, a rice paddy in Gyoda, Saitama Prefecture is currently a canvas to protagonist Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Watch as a 2.8-hectare field transforms into Tanjiro over the course of months—from June 12th to August 8th—brought to life in a mesmerizing time-lapse filmed from Gyoda Tower.
Called “tanbo,” this style of art is popular around Japan, where farmers strategically plant different varieties of grain to achieve contrasting shades in the final image.
According to the video, the field was recognized in 2015 by the Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind.
The project was done to promote the Japanese release of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Infinity Castle which premiered on July 18th, 2025. The film will open in Canadian cinemas on September 12th, 2025; advance tickets are now available through Cineplex and Landmark Cinemas.
