Día de los Muertos 2025

Day of the Dead Market on Granville Island marks end of Latin American Heritage Month

Close out Latin American Heritage Month with a vibrant tribute to Mexican tradition at Granville Island. The Day of the Dead Market invites visitors to experience a rich blend of community, culture, and remembrance on Saturday, November 1st, and Sunday, November 2nd, 2025.

This free event explores a celebration known as the Day of the Dead or “Día de los Muertos,” where families visit graves of loved ones in cemeteries across the country not to mourn, but to remember and cherish their memories. Many families setup an altar at home called an “ofrenda” decorated with portraits, personal items, and candles, as well as lay out paths of marigold petals called “cempasúchil” as a way to guide spirits between their home and the afterlife.

The Day of the Dead Market weaves Canadian context into Latin American heritage through music, traditional crafts, delightful foods, and interactive workshops in a family-friendly environment. A large ofrenda (pictured at top) is already in place at the Ocean Artworks Pavilion, located between the Creekhouse and Ocean Cement/Heidelberg Materials.

Tickets are free to purchase online, but donations are welcomed on-site. Hours are 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday, and 11:00 am to 8:00 pm on Sunday. Dress for the weather as it is expected to rain both days. Consider taking transit as there’s limited parking on Granville Island — TransLink bus 50 stops right at the island’s entrance or hop on an Aquabus or False Creek Ferries to get there.
