Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Island life thrives with Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates

Despite receiving a “final” feature roll-out a few years back, Nintendo has decided now is as good as ever for another update one to it’s must-have titles for the Nintendo Switch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a glow up for the Nintendo Switch 2; though players who still have the original Switch system can still enjoy some of the new add-ins, just not the fancy Switch 2 improvements. A number of new fun experiences were added, including hotels, increased item storage, and appearances by characters from other Nintendo series.

A new offshore experience will bring in more visitors. While the salty Kapp’n sails the seas, his family operates the Resort Hotel, a massive structure extending from your island’s shores. Attract guests by decorating rooms, offer fashion advice through mannequins, and even snag some limited home goods from the souvenir shop in this luxury add-on.

Finding some calmness in his life, Resetti is now offering a Reset Service to clean up the island when things become overwhelming. Beef up the home storage with an upgrade for up to 9,000 items, including trees, shrubs and flowers!

With a Nintendo Switch Online membership, create up to three islands in a dream-like sequence with your friends or individually. Once decorated, share it out with others and invite the residents from your own island to visit.

A special collaboration between Nintendo and LEGO will see the classic building toy make an appearance, but that’s not all! With a Nintendo Switch Online membership, play a curated selection of classic Nintendo games just by interacting with them. And of course, if you have The Legend of Zelda or Splatoon amiibos, tap them to invite special characters to visit and unlock limited edition items.

In the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, enhancements include improved resolution, outputting at 4K when the console is docked in TV mode, mouse controls when using the right Joy-Con 2 controller, operating the megaphone with the console’s own microphone to call over island residents, invite a maximum of 12 players into online sessions (all players must have the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition), and see their reactions when connecting a compatible USB camera!

The free update and the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are slated to launch on Thursday, January 15th, 2026. Nintendo will offer both physical and digital versions of the Switch 2 Edition, with owners of the Nintendo Switch edition able to upgrade their copy for only $6.99 CAD if they have the new system. Preorders are available as of today through the My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop.
