ONE PIECE takes brief break in Weekly Shonen Jump

Readers of ONE PIECE will need some patience as the long-running manga skips an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump due to the creator’s health.

A statement posted to Twitter/X on the official ONE PIECE account announced the manga was on hiatus and would not appear in issue 45 of the magazine, releasing on Monday, October 6th, 2025, due to the health of creator Eiichiro Oda. It went on to add that this was a last minute decision which resulted in ONE PIECE being listed the table of contents and survey postcards despite this. The statement ended on a positive note that Oda’s health was improving and the manga would return in issue 46 which would go on sale on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025.

Japan’s manga industry is notoriously stressful on artists, writers and their assistants, where demanding deadlines, long hours, and heavy workloads force them to take breaks to deal with burnout and other health concerns.

ONE PIECE is currently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump, an imprint of Japanese publishing conglomerate Shueisha. It’s first appearance was in the 34th issue of the magazine on July 22nd, 1997, and continues with over 1,100 chapters published and 516 million individual copies purchased in 60 countries worldwide.

In North America, the ONE PIECE manga is offered in print and digital formats from VIZ Media and through the MANGA Plus app.
