Sekiro: No Defeat anime will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2026

Revealed in the lead-up to GamesCom 2025 in Cologne, Germany, Sekiro: No Defeat emerges from a collaboration between Kadokawa, Crunchyroll, Qzil.la, and ARCH. An anime adaptation of 2019’s action-adventure hit Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice by developer FromSoftware, Sekiro: No Defeat will stream exclusively to Crunchyroll in 2026 worldwide excluding Japan, China, South Korea, Belarus and Russia.

Animation studio Qzil.la has taken it upon themselves to recreate the bloody Sengoku period of Japan, as explored in the game, utilizing hand-drawn methods at story-telling.

“We are taking on the monumental task of animating the breathtakingly beautiful Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In doing so, we are pouring every ounce of our artistic vision and passion for beauty into its production,” said Kenichi Kutsuna, animation director, in a press release.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a game known for its precision and intensity, and those qualities carry through beautifully in this adaptation,” added Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll.

Staff involved in this monumental project are director Kenichi Kutsuna, screenwriter Takuya Satou, character designer Takahiro Kishida, deputy director Shunsuke Fukui, chief animation director Kaito Moki, and action animation director Takashi Mukuda. Yuji Kaneko serves as art director, with Azusa Sasaki as colour designer, and, Keisuke Nozawa as cinematographer. Additional credits include editor Yoshinori Murakami, sound director Yasushi Nagura, composer Shuta Hasunuma. Production is being handled by ARCH, with animation by Qzil.la.

Cast who appeared in the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will reprise their roles in Sekiro: No Defeat, with Daisuke Namikawa as the voice of Wolf, Miyuki Satou as Kuro/The Divine Heir, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was released in March 2019 on the PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One and has sold over 10 million copies globally.
