Look Back opens in Canadian theatres on October 6, 2024

A film adaption of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga Look Back is coming to theatres across starting Sunday, October 6th, 2024. National cinema chains Cineplex and Landmark Cinemas will screen Look Back in Japanese with English subtitles.

GKIDS Films acquired the license to distribute Look Back in North America and posted a synopsis of the film to its website.

Popular, outgoing Fujino is celebrated by her classmates for her funny comics in the class newspaper. One day, her teacher asks her to share the space with Kyomoto, a truant recluse whose beautiful artwork sparks a competitive fervor in Fujino. What starts as jealousy transforms when Fujino realizes their shared passion for drawing.

Look Back is directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, with a screenplay written by Kiyotaka Oshiyama and Tatsuki Fujimoto, and animation by Studio Durian. The film’s theme song is titled “Light song” by Haruka Nakamura and vocals by Urara. It stars Yuumi Kawai as Fujino and Mizuki Yoshida as Kyomoto. The movie premiered in Japanese theatres on June 18th, 2024.

Look Back was written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto (the creator of Chainsaw Man) and published on Shonen Jump+ as a one-shot manga on July 19th, 2021 and subsequently Manga Plus. Viz Media acquired the North American license to translate the manga into English and offers it in both digital and print formats.
