If you’re looking to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 console here in Canada, you may want to make your purchase soon. Nintendo has announced the system’s price is increasing by $50, rising from $629.99 CAD to $679.99 CAD starting Tuesday, September 1st, 2026.
The Japanese gaming company says the increase is a response to challenging market conditions, likely exacerbated by continuing chip shortages caused by the ongoing AI race, which are expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
The price of the console is also increasing in the United States on the same date, jumping by $50 from $449.99 USD to $499.99 USD.
The price change does not apply to the existing Nintendo Switch console, which is now just over nine years old.
Barely a year old, the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5th, 2025, and has sold more than 3.5 million units within its first four days. Since its release, the console has not undergone any price increases.
