This morning, the most highly anticipated Nintendo Direct streaming event, provided a clearer look at the Nintendo Switch 2 console, is scheduled to launch on Thursday, June 5th, 2025. In the hour-long video, the Japanese gaming giant demonstrated some of the console’s features and expected titles.
Nintendo has gone all out with their newest system, packing a 7.9 inch (200 mm) LCD screen running at 1080p into the same 13.9 mm frame used by the original Switch system; when docked for TV mode, the console can output up to 4K resolution with an impressive 120 fps for supported titles. A second USB-C port on top lets players charge their device in table-top mode or connect accessories, such as a camera, for use with GameChat. The Joy-Con 2 controllers are secured magnetically and detached for sharing in multiplayer games or for use as a mouse when precision is needed. Internally, the Nintendo Switch 2 has 256GB of storage, and is expandable with microSD Express cards that offer faster data transfer speeds.

Playing with friends and family has gotten easier with GameShare. Titles compatible with GameShare allow a host who has the game to temporarily stream the game to other local Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch systems. Communicate with up to 12 other players through GameChat. Press the C button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller to initiate a voice call utilizing the console’s built-in microphone. Connect a USB-C camera (sold separately) to start a video chat with up to four players all while in the middle of the fun. GameChat is free until the end of March 2026 when a Nintendo Switch Online Membership is required. With virtual game cards, transfer and share digitally purchased games within members of a Nintendo Account family group, or play them offline.

Here’s what comes included with the console:
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- Joy-Con 2 controllers
- Joy-Con 2 grip
- Joy-Con 2 wrist straps
- Nintendo Switch 2 dock
- Ultra high-speed HDMI cable
- USB-C charging cable
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter
With all these features, Nintendo has revealed the suggested retail price here in Canada is $629.99 CAD, whereas the Mario Kart World bundle is priced at $699.99 CAD — but the game is a digital download, not a physical copy. It’s a significantly higher amount than the $399.99 CAD offered for the Nintendo Switch.
