Late last week, a friend and I made an evening to enjoy the brilliant displays for the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver.
This annual tradition sees the grounds strung with thousands of Christmas lights and festive displays. Despite the ongoing pandemic, the gardens were quite busy taking in the sights and sounds of the year-end spectacle.
It’s been a while since I’ve had the camera out for this; to make use of the low-light scenario, all pictures were taken with the 50mm f/1.8 lens with various shutter speeds and ISO to accommodate the displays.
The Festival of Lights runs November 26th, 2021 through January 3rd, 2022, but are closed on December 25th, 2021 — Christmas Day. As the lights are best experienced in the dark, the event is only open between 4:00 PM and 9:30 PM PST. As the weather on the west coast can change at a moments notice, visitors are asked to dress accordingly for rain or snow.
