Starting Tuesday, June 16th, 2026, BC Ferries is adding a five per cent fuel surcharge on all routes.
Cited as temporary, it comes as volatility in fuel markets due to conflict in the Middle East raise prices for Canadians.
Operating nearly 45 vessels across wide swathes of British Columbia’s vast coastline, fuel is one of the leading cost expenditures for the transportation company.
According to a statement, BC Ferries says global fuel prices have gone up over 40 percent since early March as blockades restrict energy traffic through the Straight of Hormuz.
Travellers looking for relief can sail outside peak travel times. When fuel prices stabilize or drop, the surcharge is expected to decrease or be removed.
