Following a two year absence, the annual Sakura Days Japan Fair is returning to the VanDusen Botanical Garden for a weekend of Japanese culture, food and fun on April 9th and 10th, 2022.
Under the delicate pink cherry blossoms, or sakura, Japanese culture comes to life through live performances, music, food, arts, demonstrations and crafts. As an added bonus, explore the lush botanical gardens in between the events, taking in the blooming flowers, shrubs and trees.
As the festival takes place in the outdoors, wear appropriate attire as it may rain or the fields might have mud. Parking is limited, so save the hassle and take transit (either the #17 bus, or walk from the Oakridge-41st Avenue Canada Line Station west along 41st Avenue, and then north along Oak Street) to reach VanDusen Botanical Gardens; it’s about a 15-20 minute stroll.
Paid admission is required for entry to the fair; tickets are available online through Eventbrite. Attendees will need to show their vaccine passport along with government-issued ID before entering the gardens.
Sakura Days Japan Fair operates between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
The fair is part of the larger Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival which includes picnics, haiku writing competitions, educational programs and walks to view the many cherry trees across the city.
