In 2029, Mobile Suit Gundam will celebrate its 50th anniversary. A special Gundam Conference was streamed on YouTube, revealing a number of new projects coming in the months and years ahead, including a new movie and a remaster of the original series.
A brief trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO was shown during the conference, and it was announced that the movie will open in Japanese theatres. No further details were provided, including whether an international release is planned.
Another announcement confirmed a remaster of the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and produced by Sunrise and Sotsu, the series aired 43 episodes from April 7th, 1979, to January 26th, 1980.
Mobile Suit Gundam is described as:
War has broken out between the human colonies in space. Helping evacuate his neighbours, a teenager named Amuro Ray finds himself upon an un-manned Mobile Suit — the RX-78-2. Taking control, he swiftly eliminates the attacking Duchy of Zeon’s Zaku units, setting forth his new destiny with Earth’s Federation Forces.
