Fire Emblem Heroes - Roy: Of Binding

New Roy hero arrives in Fire Emblem Heroes

Nintendo is celebrating Roy Day with a new edition of Roy in its mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes. For a limited time this month, players can add Roy: Of Binding to their teams.

Roy: Of Binding returns as a five‑star hero, joining the existing roster with new attributes and artwork by Susumu Kuroi, based on his appearance in the Nintendo Switch title Fire Emblem Engage. He is available exclusively through in‑game summoning.

The campaign also introduces new maps and Hero Battles for players to take on.

Fans can even download two new mobile wallpapers as part of this celebration.

Roy: Of Binding is available from Friday, May 29th, 2026, until 11:59 pm PDT on Sunday, June 14th, 2026.

Fire Emblem Heroes is available on Android and Apple iOS devices.

Why is June 1st Roy day?

June 1st was selected from the Japanese numbers six and one: (ro) from roku and (i) from ichi, which together create ロイ, or the name Roy. It’s also a play on the fact June is the sixth month of the year. The date is significant for both fans of Fire Emblem and Fullmetal Alchemist, which obviously have characters named Roy.

Roy made his first appearance in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, released in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance. Because the game launched exclusively in Japan, Roy was introduced to Western audiences as a hidden playable character in Super Smash Bros. Melee to gauge interest in both the character and the turn‑based strategy series.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade is described as:

War engulfs the continent of Elibe. The armies of the Kingdom of Bern march on Lycia, and Roy, the son of an ailing marquess, is thrust into battle. He must quickly gather allies to fend off Bern’s might as its forces sweep across the land in search of its legendary treasures.

Roy has continued to appear consistently in later Super Smash Bros. entries and Fire Emblem titles, often through downloadable content.
