Anime studio MAPPA is celebrating the 10th anniversary of ice-skating series Yuri!!! on ICE not with a film, but a new illustration, commemorative Blu-ray box set and a winter exhibition.
The illustration incorporates the main characters of the series with Jean-Jacques Leroy, Otabek Altin, Yuri Plisetsky, Phichit Chulanont, Viktor Nikiforov, Christophe Giacometti, and, Yuri Katsuki in the centre.
Details on what the exhibition will contain, when and where it will take place, were not provided; further information is expected in the coming months.
Announced in 2017, YURI!!! on ICE the movie : ICE ADOLESCENCE was meant as a sequel to the anime, but was fraught with delays and finally cancelled in 2024. Alleged creative differences and concerns over profitability permanently shelved the project.
Yuri!!! on ICE spanned 12 episodes from October 6th, 2016, through December 21st, 2016, documenting the journey of Japanese professional figure skater Yuri Katsuki as he navigates the challenging sport all while dealing with his own emotions. Created by Sayo Yamamoto and Mitsuro Kubo, it was well received by fans around the world, with actual figure skaters incorporating music from the show in their routines.
