Something new and something old: Zelda!

During this morning’s airing of Nintendo Direct, the Japanese gaming giant mentioned that another Legend of Zelda game is in the works. Unlike previous announcements that saw two popular titles re-released (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for Nintendo 3DS and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for Wii U), this new unnamed title for the Nintendo 3DS would act as the sequel to the revered The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

The graphics are reminiscent of the 16 bit days, though they are more refined — smoother three dimensional models give a sense of depth and detail. New gameplay elements are included; one of which uses magic power to turn Link into a drawing. This allows the green-clad hero transform into a movable image on dungeon walls for a unique perspective when solving puzzles.

While no specific launch date was declared, it was noted that this adventure would be released sometime during the 2013 holiday season.

Also announced were the upcoming re-release of two Game Boy Color games: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons for the Virtual Console on the Nintendo 3DS. The hero, Link, explores two different worlds and is able to manipulate both the time and nature with the help of new friends. The two games are intertwined — what happens in one game can unlock something in the other. Both The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons will be available on Thursday, May 30^th, 2013.
