The Rose Garden in Stanley Park

This August holds a special celebration for one of Vancouver’s most admired and well-visited attractions: the 125th birthday of Stanley Park. A gleaming emerald in the crown of the city, this urban forest offers a great opportunity to experience nature and a break from our daily lives.

Even though the park was officially opened on September 27th, 1888, the weekend of August 24th–25th, 2013 will be filled with a number of events suitable for all ages, including:

  • Outdoor concerts, sports, food concessions and beer garden at Second Beach
  • Children’s entertainment, Coast Salish art, interactive ecological workshops and tours at Lumberman’s Arch
  • Historical tours, Shakespeare recitals and performances at the Rose Gardens
  • Rugby and cricket games and tutorials and Coast Salish Slahal games at Brockton Oval
  • Open house at the Royal Canadian Navy’s HMCS Discovery on Deadman’s Island
  • Musical performances at Lost Lagoon

Considering that a summer weekend will draw extra visitors, it might be best to leave the car at home and either take transit or walk along the seawall and avoid the hassle of parking.

For further details on events be sure to follow Stanley Park 125 on Twitter and Facebook.
