With the 2014 Winter Olympics closing in, participating nations are preparing their ice hockey line-ups. On Friday, July 19th, 2013 the National Hockey League, National Hockey League Player’s Association, International Ice Hockey Federation and International Olympic Committee made arrangements to allow NHL players to participate in the games. Upon that news, it appears that three Canucks have a chance at representing Canada and the United States in Sochi, Russia.

Goaltender Roberto Luongo will most likely be asked to reprise his role in net. The Montreal-born Luongo helped secure Canada’s gold medal during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Dan Hamhuis is also a possible candidate to join Team Canada. If selected, the Smithers, British Columbia native will play defence in his first-ever Winter Olympics.

Ryan Kesler will also be called up by Team USA. Kesler, from Livonia, Michigan, also played in the 2010 Winter Olympics, but for the Americans. He earned a silver medal after the climactic final against Canada in 2010.

Luongo, Hamhuis and Kesler have to attend their respective orientation camps: Canada’s will be in Calgary, Alberta between August 25th-28th, 2013 while the Americans will hold theirs in Arlington, Virginia, from August 26th-27th, 2013. Even then, attending doesn’t guarantee they’ll be given a spot.

The 2014 Winter Olympics will be held between February 7th-23rd, 2014 in Sochi.
