The Vancouver Canucks issued a brief statement today that they have parted ways with Mike Gillis who held the position of president and general manager of the team.
Leading up to Gillis’ dismissal, the Canucks had an abysmal season that saw the hiring of controversial coach John Tortorella, departure of goaltender Roberto Luongo and the first time in six seasons that the team has missed the playoffs.
Names for the positions of president and general manager were not mentioned, but rumours online include former Canucks captain Trevor Linden. Linden has said he has not been contacted by the team with regards to the topic.
