The team at Crunchyroll are at it again, creating a list of shows involving their favourite animal companions. Doesn’t matter if these sidekicks are large or small, furry or feathered, or even if they have a bad habit of chomping on their beloved human’s head. Despite some of their obnoxiousness, there’s no denying these creatures are lovable.

So curl up with your own animal friend and enjoy these awesome series together.

My Roommate is a Cat (Haru the cat)

The story of Mikazuki Subaru, a novelist who is shy and struggles in relationships with other people, and a cat who was dumped by humans and lived a tough life on the streets. Through a twist of fate, the two of them end up living together. This heartwarming tale illustrates day-to-day life through the eyes of both man and cat. These moments seem trivial, but as they build upon themselves, the two become family and find happiness in their life together.

Shonen Ashibe GO! GO! Goma-chan (Goma-chan the baby seal)

A comedy manga, “Shonen Ashibe,” that follows the friendship between baby spotted seal Goma-chan and first-grade student Ashiya Ashibe. First serialized in 1988 and adapted to anime in 1991, the adorable Goma-chan created a massive following and a spotted seal boom. This spring, Goma-chan returns to “Tentere Anime.” A cute, pleasant story of Ashibe and Goma-chan and their unusual school and their neighbors. Sometimes endearing, sometimes bizarre, it’s a fun anime for the whole family!

KONOSUBA -God’s blessing on this wonderful world! (Chomusuke the cat)

After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato’s disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. She claims to be a goddess, Aqua, and asks if he would like to go to another world and bring only one thing with him. Kazuma decides to bring the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world filled with adventure, ruled by a demon king. Now Kazuma only wants to live in peace, but Aqua wants to solve many of this world’s problems, and the demon king will only turn a blind eye for so long…

Fairy Tail (Happy the winged cat)

The story follows a teenage girl named Lucy Heartfilla who is determined to join the notorious magical Fairy Tail Guild. During a daring rescue, she encounters Natsu who is part of the guild and eventually offers her a place. They become teammates performing various missions for the Fairy Tail Guild. Be prepared for an action-packed adventure!

Gintama (Sadaharu the dog)

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motorbikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions. 

Parasyte -the maxim- (Migi the parasite)

They arrived in silence and darkness, descending from the skies with a hunger for human flesh. Parasites – alien creatures who must invade and take control of a human host to survive – have come to Earth. No one knows their secret except high school student, Shinichi Izumi, who’s right hand has been invaded by an alien parasite. Shinichi and Migi, the parasite in his hand, begrudgingly form a friendship and find themselves caught in the middle of a war between humans and parasites.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card (Kero-chan the cerberus)

Sakura had managed to capture all of the Clow Cards which could bring disaster to the world and turned them into her own Sakura Cards. Now it’s spring. Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga (many, many dogs!)

The Warring States Period is a time of feuding warlords. Oda Nobunaga, the greatest of them all, is reborn in modern-day Japan… as a shiba-inu! The other generals of the era, too, have also inexplicably been reborn as dogs. Their warring states rivalry will resume at the dog park! 

Mitchiri Neko (many, many cats!)

The cute and mysterious cat-like creatures called Mitchiri Neko that seem to gather around each other if you leave them alone now get their own anime with a glorious voice cast! The free and happy-go- lucky Mitchiri Neko’s daily life is filled with fluff and surreal laughs! Say it with me, “Mitchiri! Mitchiri!”

FLCL (Takkun the cat)

FLCL: Progressive tells the story of 14-year-old Hidomi, her classmate Ide, and two otherworldly beings, “Jinyu” and “Haruha Raharu,” who are determined to unlock their hidden potential. Mixed up in this is an all-powerful force known as “ATOMSK,” a gorgeous Chrysler Bel Aire… and a certain Vespa Scooter. FLCL: Alternative centers on the misadventures of 17-year-old Kana, a high school junior who spends her days hanging out with her besties, Mossan, Hijiri, and Pets. They live unremarkable lives, until the day a Mecha falls out of the sky, along with a strange woman named “Haruko.”
