Earlier today, San Francisco-based Crunchyroll revealed they are working with Idris Elba’s London-based Green Door Pictures and Sabrina Elba’s Pink Towel Pictures to create a dark science fiction animated series that’s tentatively titled Dantai.

We’re really excited to be announcing this deal on our first anime. We’re both fans of the genre and see a huge opportunity to create something unique for a powerhouse like Crunchyroll. The story of ‘Dantai’ is our first collaboration as producers together and is one that is close to our hearts.

In the distant future, biotechnology has driven a wedge between the residents of a metropolis, dividing those who have everything and those barely surviving. Each side presents a champion for their rights as they struggle with equal rights and familial ties in an unrelenting and unscrupulous world.

We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Idris and Sabrina to develop this anime-inspired sci-fi epic. It is a privilege to work with such talented, creative partners and we look forward to bringing this exciting project to life.

The Elbas will serve as executive producers of Dantai which is now in development.

Green Door Pictures was founded in 2013 by Idris Elba to give a new and and experienced creators a platform to develop inclusive and diverse scripted and non-scripted content for film, television and streaming.

Crunchyroll not only shares established anime series beloved the world over, but has created their own under their Crunchyroll Originals banner; the most recent was the popular dark Mesoamerican adventure Onyx Equinox.
