Crunchyroll has announced their free three-day online anime convention, Virtual Crunchyroll Expo, will take place Thursday, August 5th thru Saturday, August 7th, 2021.

Crunchyroll, the world’s largest anime streaming service, has annually hosted a convention but moved the fun online last year as large in-person gatherings are not in vogue, and, to share the excitement with the greater global community of Japanese pop culture.

Virtual Crunchyroll Expo, or V-CRX, digitizes all the events of a physical anime convention into live streaming video without the line-ups or badges: international guests, fan and official panels, show screenings, beautiful cosplay, amazing artist’s alley, and yes, lots of merchandise for sale.

Fans looking to host a panel or sell artwork can apply online; deadlines for submissions close on Friday, June 11th for panels and Friday, May 7th for artist’s alley.

Dust of those costumes and grab the hair gel, Crunchyroll-Hime, Crunchyroll’s own mascot, is hosting a cosplay competition called Crunchyroll-Hime’s Cosplay Cup. Create a 60-second video either as an individual or up to five people in a group to enter before Sunday, June 6th.

Registration for Virtual Crunchyroll Expo is free, and those who sign-up by Friday, April 30th can download neat backgrounds for their desktop, mobile device or Zoom meetings.
