Like a long lost treasure excavated from the depths of a dark jungle, the live-action movie Uncharted, based on the video game series of the same name, is finally coming to theatres on February 18th, 2022.

Centered around a younger Nathan Drake (Tom Holland, pictured at top) and Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg), sans mustache, Uncharted explores the duo’s earlier adventures in a quest to uncover lost treasure and family. Additional cast includes the sharp and sensual relic hunter Chloe Frazer, played by Sophia Ali, mysterious Braddock played by Tati Gabrielle and Antonio Banderas as the yet-unnamed villain.

In a trailer released on Thursday, fans easily will recognize scenes that are a nod back to the games themselves, including one of Drake dangling dangerously from cargo crates behind an aircraft in mid-flight a la Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. The film has all the makings of an Uncharted game complete with the action, the lure of a forgotten fortune and the exotic locales to explore.

The Uncharted film has long been fraught with issues since the idea was floated well over a decade ago. Multiple producers, directors and other creative staff have come and gone, leading many to believe the production had entered development hell. But in the last few years, filming picked up and with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg being cast as the main characters, giving hope for the project to screen in theatres.

Developed by Naughty Dog, Uncharted is a franchise with games that first appeared on the PlayStation 3, but are now playable on the PS4, PS5 and the PC as of next year. Everyman Nathan “Nate” Drake (Nolan North) partners with Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Richard McGonagle) to find missing treasure while fighting off competing collectors, warlords and other fearsome foes all while protecting his love interests with the help of independent journalist Elena Fisher (Emily Rose), fellow thief Chloe Frazer (Claudia Black), brutish Charlie Cutter (Graham McTavish) and Nate’s long lost brother Sam (Troy Baker).
