Titled Dragon Ball DAIMA, the anime is an entirely new story developed by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. A video shared to Toei Animation’s YouTube channel shows Toriyama’s legendary characters in a chibi-style.

The video was first shown to attendees during a panel held at the New York Comic Con on Thursday, October 12th, 2023.

A statement by Toriyama was posted on the Official Dragon Ball website, explaining the made-up word “DAIMA” (which translates into “evil”), and a bit of backstory on Goku’s new appearance.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is expected to air during the fall of 2024 when the original Dragon Ball manga turns 40.
