It’s the news fans of ice skating anime YURI!!! on ICE were dreading. Beset by delays, production on YURI!!! on ICE the movie : ICE ADOLESCENCE has finally ceased, according to an announcement shared by staff to its official account on Twitter/X.
The notice was posted in both Japanese and English apologizing to the show’s supporters who have waited well over six years for its intended release.

Thank you very much for always supporting “Yuri!!! on ICE”.
Regarding the postponed release of “YURI!!! on ICE the movie : ICE ADOLESCENCE”, we have come to the decision to unfortunately cancel its production.
We deeply apologize for not being able to meet the expectations of all those who have been waiting and have continued to support us throughout these years.
The production committee and staff have been in constant discussions to create and deliver the movie, but due to various circumstances, we have had to make the difficult decision to stop the production.
We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been anticipating its release and thank you once again for your continued support.

YURI!!! on ICE the movie : ICE ADOLESCENCE was first revealed in 2017 and was scheduled to release sometime in 2019. That date was then pushed back and delayed, before news dissipated altogether.
Animation studio MAPPA was handling production of the movie, while also working on other major anime series including Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man. It’s not known how much work was completed so far; only a few teaser trailers were released for public viewing.
In 2023, staff at the venerated studio came forward alleging stressful working conditions, resulting in quality issues that surfaced in Jujutsu Kaisen, leading to an apology from episode director Hokuto Sadamoto. It’s unknown if any of this had any impact in the decision to end production of YURI!!! on ICE the movie : ICE ADOLESCENCE.
Yuri!!! on ICE spanned 12 episodes from October 6th, 2016 through December 21st, 2016, documenting the journey of Japanese professional figure skater Yuri Katsuki as he navigates the challenging sport all while dealing with his own emotions. Created by Sayo Yamamoto and Mitsuro Kubo, it was well received by fans around the world, with actual figure skaters incorporating music from the show in their routines.
