Japan Market

Kawaii edition of popular Japanese market returns this March

The first Japan Market of 2024 is scheduled for the beginning of March and, for the first time, will span three days packed full of shopping opportunities, food and live entertainment.

Kawaii Japan Market is a three-day-long event, running March 1st through 3rd, 2024 at UBC Robson Square in downtown Vancouver, packed with a variety of family friendly events and vendors to explore.

The term “kawaii” refers to anything cute, and Japan is famous for adorable characters and mascots (think Hello Kitty). Expect plenty of anime and manga-related merchandise next to the standard goods including housewares, snacks, kimonos and other artisan crafts.

On Friday, March 3rd, shoppers can watch a lolita fashion show and musical performances; on Saturday, March 4th, there’s a Haru Dance presentation, a meeting of the UBC Anime Club, followed by a cosplay contest; and on Sunday, March 5th, there’s more dancing and musical shows.

Doors to Kawaii Japan Market are open 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, and between 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. A nominal admission is required to enter and peruse the stalls and are available for purchase online. Save the hassle of finding parking by riding transit — Robson Square is less than a 10 minute walk from Granville Station on the Expo Line or Vancouver City Centre on the Canada Line.
