Arguably one of the most iconic aircraft to grace the skies of British Columbia, one of the last remaining Martin JRM Mars water bombers, the Hawaii Mars made one final flight down the eastern coastline of Vancouver Island this afternoon.
Departing from Sproat Lake in centre of Vancouver Island, the Hawaii Mars flew over Campbell River, Comox, Powell River, Qualicum Beach, Parksville, and Nanaimo. A Grumman G-21A Goose accompanied the Hawaii Mars on its journey towards the British Columbia Aviation Museum in North Saanich.
These photos were taken during its two passes over Qualicum Beach on Sunday afternoon.
Ahead of its arrival in the waters off North Saanich, the legendary Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds will join the Hawaii Mars as an escort.
