Crunchyroll to stream Nyaight of the Living Cat this July

What a cat-astrophe! Anime streaming giant Crunchyroll will stream the post-apocalyptic comedy Nyaight of the Living Cat globally outside of Asia starting July 2025.

A new subtitled trailer for the upcoming series was released to coincide with Cat Day in Japan, which landed on Caturday (Saturday), February 22nd, 2025. The word “nya” in Japanese corresponds to the English “meow.”

Run! The adorable cats are here. In 20XX, the world is dominated by cats. A virus which turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat has spread into a worldwide nyandemic. Cats rub against people, turning them into cats. Can humanity fight their urge to pet cats to survive in this cat-ridden world?

Working on Nyaight of the Living Cat are executive director Takashi Miike, director Tomohiro Kamitami, with a screenplay written by Shingo Irie, character designs by Takao Maki, music composition by Koji Endo, and animation production by OLM.

The Japanese voice cast features:

  • Masaaki Mizunaka as Kunagi
  • Reina Ueda as Kaoru
  • Reiji Kawashima as Arata
  • Yu Serizawa as Tsutsumi
  • Subaru Kimura as Len Ward
  • Yoshiki Nakajima as Masaki Ward
  • Hiroki Yasumoto as Tanishi
  • Ryota Takeuchi as Gaku

Nyaight of the Living Cat is an adaptation of Night of the Living Cat, a manga written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha-Roots, and is serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden manga magazine. In North America, Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English-translated edition in print format only.
