Canadian cinemas to screen Hatsune Miku film on May 11

Vocaloid Hatsune Miku has her theatrical debut with COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing in theatres across Canada starting Sunday, May 11th, 2025 according to North American distributor GKIDS.

The Canadian premiere comes weeks after the US, where it opened on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, and will not hold an in-theatre giveaway as south of the border. The promotion distributed postcards used for a mobile game titled HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE!

Cineplex and Landmark Cinemas will show the film in English with Japanese subtitles.

GKIDS describes COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing:

Ichika is a high school musician who can enter a mysterious place called “SEKAI,” where she and her friends express their innermost emotions through music alongside Hatsune Miku. One day after giving a live performance, Ichika meets a new Miku that she has never seen before. No matter how hard this new Miku tries to sing, she struggles connecting with the hearts of her listeners. Miku must rely on the help of others to find a way to sing again.

COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Cant Sing opened in Japanese theatres on January 17th, 2025. It’s based on the HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE! game developed by Colourful Palette and published by Sega. The film was directed by Hiroyuki Hata, with a screenplay by Yoko Yonaiyama, music composition by Satoshi Hono, with animation production by P.A. Works.
