New Gintama film to revisit Yoshiwara in Flames arc in 2026

A new Gintama film is set to premiere in 2026, with its trailer confirming a reimagining of the Yoshiwara in Flames arc—timed to coincide with the anime’s 20th anniversary.

Titled New Gintama Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames, the film will revisit one of the manga’s most memorable chapters with brand new animation, intense action, passionate drama, and of course, outlandish comedy.

A specific release date was not provided.

New Gintama Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames is based on the original story by Hideaki Sorachi, with Naoya Ando as director and Yoichi Fujita as supervising director. Taku Kishimoto serves as scriptwriter, and Shinji Takeuchi handling character designs and chief animation director, with animation production by BN Pictures and distribution handled by Warner Bros. Pictures.

So far, the Japanese voice cast features Tomokazu Sugita as Gintoki Sakata, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Shinpachi Shimura, and Rie Kugimiya as Kagura.

Written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi, Gintama was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and Jump Giga from December 2003 and June 2019, comprising of 77 tankobon volumes. It was adapted into an anime by Sunrise, which ran for 201 episodes between April 2006 and March 2010. There were subsequent anime series and OVAs in 2016, 2017, and 2018. A new anime, titled 3rd Year Class Z Ginpachi-Sensei is scheduled to broadcast in October 2025.
