A little over a month away, Crunchyroll Expo is getting ready with the addition of exciting events and guests to the three day convention which takes over the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California August 5th-7th, 2022.
This year, Crunchyroll Expo will host an exclusive hololive Meet (holoMeet) exhibit that will give fans an immersive experience with popular hololive VTubers through unique media sessions, performances and meet those involved in the world of live streaming. For an additional charge, fans can purchase tickets for these meet and greet sessions to interact on a closer level with their favourite VTubers.
VTubers — a portmanteau of Virtual YouTuber — are digital avatars of content creators who livestream on the video platforms of YouTube, Niconico and Twitch. These custom avatars are generated by software to capture life-like movement of their creators as they appear while playing games, watching anime and making music. Many VTubers command huge subscriber bases, and are retained by agencies, like Hololive, to manage their merchandising, music, and concert performances.
Guests from recent anime hits were also announced, with key cast and staff from OddTaxi and Jujutsu Kaisen according to a press release from Crunchyroll.
- Kinoshita Baku is the director and character designer of ODDTAXI, a Crunchyroll co-production following the mundane life of a solitary taxi driver, who suddenly finds himself entangled in a mysterious disappearance in his town.
- Adam McArthur is the English voice of Yuji Itadori in JUJUTSU KAISEN. Fans can also hear Adam’s voice in numerous other animated projects, including Star Wars: The Clone Wars and video games Far Cry 5 and Final Fantasy XV: Comrades.
- Anne Yatco is a Filipino American voice actor and the English voice of Nobara Kugisaki in JUJUTSU KAISEN, in addition to a variety of roles in To Your Eternity, BEASTARS, Violet Evergarden: the Movie, Godzilla Singular Point, Mihoyo’s Genshin Impact and Devilman Crybaby among many others.
- Kaiji Tang is the English voice of Satoru Gojo in JUJUTSU KAISEN. His work can also be seen in Bungo Stray Dogs, MEGALOBOX, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and Kill la Kill among many others.
Stepping inside Crunchyroll Expo, attendees will find themselves in the heart of New Crunchy City, a massive municipality of all things anime. Composed of four districts, fans can buy all sorts of merchandise in the Central Shopping District, browse over 150 artists in the Arts District, chill with the latest anime hits in Theatre District and play games, dance and more in the Super Arcade.
