Toei Animation is slowly releasing all episodes of Slam Dunk subtitled in English on YouTube for free. The first ten episodes are now streaming, with the next ten to follow next week.
There’s 101 episodes in the Slam Dunk anime, which ran from October 16th, 1993, through March 23rd, 1996. The series is based on the manga of the same name by Takehiko Inoue, that was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from October 1st, 1990, until June 17th, 1996. Inoue returned to serve as director and writer of the latest movie, The First Slam Dunk, which premiered in Japan on December 3rd, 2022. A North American release is scheduled for July 28th, 2023.
Hanamichi Sakuragi is struggling to find a date, facing rejection at every turn. That is, until he encounters Haruko Akagi. Seeing that Hanamichi has potential, Haruko suggests he join the high school basketball team. Even though Hanamichi is unenthusiastic about playing basketball, he does so anyways to improve his relationship with Haruko.
