Fans watching the English-dubbed version of the upcoming Studio Ghibli film The Boy and The Heron will recognize some very familiar names. GKIDS Films, the North American distributor of the movie, announced the cast across its social media channels and website earlier today.
The line-up features:
- Christian Bale as Shoichi Maki
- Dave Bautista as the Parakeet King
- Gemma Chan as Natsuko
- Willem Dafoe as the Noble Pelican
- Karen Fukuhara as Lady Himi
- Mark Hamill as Granduncle
- Robert Pattinson as the Gray Heron
- Florence Pugh as Kiriko
- Luca Padovan as Mahito Maki
- Mamoudou Athie, Tony Revolori, and Dan Stevens as the Parakeets
According to GKIDS Films, the casting was done within SAG-AFTRA guidelines, whose members remain on strike against major Hollywood studios.
The Boy and The Heron will premiere in Cineplex theatres across Canada on December 8th, 2023, in both Japanese with subtitles and dubbed in English; it will also appear in the large-screen IMAX format.
Titled How Do You Live?, the movie opened in Japanese cinemas on July 14th, 2023 to critical acclaim.
