A new trailer for the remake of the Ranma 1/2 was revealed today, providing a look at the updated animation and character voices which is scheduled to broadcast in Japan on October 5th, 2024.
The anime is based on the manga Ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi which was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly SHonen Sunday magazine from August 19th, 1987 until March 6th, 1996 and then compiled into 38 individual volumes. Viz Media holds the license to publish the English-translated editions in North America.
Ranma 1/2 was then adapted into an anime series in 1989 for 18 episodes, before being renewed again later that year and concluding in 1992.
Ranma Saotome and his father Genma are visiting China to undertake martial arts training when they mistakenly enter the cursed Jusenkyo hot springs. Those who bathe in these hot springs are destined to take on the spirits of people and creatures who have perished in its waters in centuries past. Thus, when splashed with cold water, Ranma adopts a girls persona and Genma transforms into a panda! This turns into a series of comedic and action-packed events between the two, their family and friends.
The Ranma 1/2 remake is directed by Konosuke Uda, with series composition by Kimiko Ueno, character designs by Hiromi Taniguchi, chief animation directors Hiromi Taniguchi, Tsuyoshi Yoshikawa, Yoshiko Saito, and Nao Otsu, lead animation by Nao Naito and Rie Aoki, artwork by Minami Kitamura, music composition by Kaoru Wada, planning by Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd., and animation production by MAPPA.
