Toronto to get Kenshi Yonezu concert film in September

Catch Kenshi Yonezu’s concert film KENSHI YONEZU 2023 TOUR / FANTASY on the big screen for a single day on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 at select Cineplex theatres in Toronto, including the Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas.

The concert was recorded from Yonezu’s July 2nd, 2023 performance at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. Anime fans will recognize the songs “Chikyugi – Spinning Globe” from the recent hit Studio Ghibli film The Boy and the Heron, and, “KICK BACK” as the opening theme to Chainsaw Man.

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment are distributing KENSHI YONEZU 2023 TOUR / FANTASY in a limited global release — Toronto, Ontario was the only Canadian city selected. Other cities include Los Angeles, California; London, England; Paris, France; and Sydney, Australia; Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and Chile will also get a release, though participating cities were not yet revealed.

The global screening of KENSHI YONEZU 2023 TOUR / FANTASY is coordinated in conjunction with the release of Yonezu’s sixth studio album LOST CORNER, which became available on August 21st, 2024. LOST CORNER not only contains “Chikyugi – Spinning Globe”, “KICK BACK”, and “Pale Blue”, but eight never-before-heard songs.

Using the nickname Hachi, Kenshi Yonezu got his start making Vocalid music before switching to his real name in 2012 for his first studio album Diorama. Since then, Yonezu’s recognition has increased, earning a gold certification from the RIAA for “KICK BACK”. His work is found across multiple mediums, from television to video games to major motion pictures.
