A film retelling the first season of BOCCHI THE ROCK! is coming to theatres across Canada for a limited time next month. Crunchyroll in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertaniment is bringing the emotionally charged BOCCHI THE ROCK! Recap Part 1 & 2 on October 6th, 7th, and 8th, 2024, in Japanese with English subtitles.
Participating theatres were not provided in a press release. We’ll update as we have the information.
BOCCHI THE ROCK! Recap Part 1 & 2 will include new animation and two new songs — the opening “Tsukinami ni Kagayake” (“Shine as usual”) and “Ima, Boku, Underground Kara” (“Now, I’m going from underground”), both by Kessoku Band.
Crunchyroll describes the series as such: it tells the story of young rocker Hitori Gotoh, also known as “Bocchi-chan,” a middle schooler struggling with social anxiety. Amid her silence and solitude, she picks up a guitar and discovers that she is talented, but despite spending hours practicing and uploading popular videos of herself performing, her dreams of joining a band and making friends never materialize. The thought of reaching out to strangers makes her nervous, and instead, the awkward Hitori isolates herself even more, accepting her fate of solitude. Until one day, she meets Nijika Ijichi, the drummer for Kessoku Band, who encourages her to change her tune and helps her overcome her deep social anxiety!
The films are directed by Keiichiro Saito, with a screenplay by Erika Yoshida, and animation production by CloverWorks. Appearing in the film are Yoshino Aoyama as the voice of Hitori Gotoh, Sayumi Suzushiro as the voice of Nijika Ijichi, Saku Mizuno as the voice of Ryo Yamada, and Ikumi Hasegawa as the voice of Ikuyo Kita.
BOCCHI THE ROCK! Recap Part 1 premiered in Japanese theatres on June 7th, 2024, followed by Part 2 on August 9th, 2024. It will also screen in the United States on October 6th. Additional countries will get screenings, starting with the United Kingdom on October 7th, France on October 15th, and Australia on October 17th, 2024.
The first season of BOCCHI THE ROCK! is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
