Crunchyroll to launch new manga app this year

Anime streaming giant Crunchyroll is getting back into the manga business offering a new app for fans to read their favourite manga online.

Crunchyroll Manga is scheduled to release in Canada and the United States later in 2025 on Android and Apple iOS devices, followed by web browser integration for desktop users in the future. The announcement was made during the Sony Group Corporation’s press conference at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Reading manga on the new service will require a paid subscription from Crunchyroll. Like its anime library, Crunchyroll Manga will roll out with yet un-named major titles in English with more series and languages added over time.

Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, stated in a press release that “Research shows that nearly 70% of anime fans read digital manga at least once a month, highlighting the immense demand for this medium. Crunchyroll Manga will not only meet this growing interest but also fuel the continued global popularity of anime and manga alike.”

Crunchyroll previously offered a similar service under the same name for nearly a decade; it was shut down in December 2023.
