Spring Festival Parade

Welcome the Year of the Snake in Vancouver’s Chinatown this Sunday

On Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, Vancouver’s Chinatown will host the 51st Annual Chinatown Spring Festival Parade with a lively procession of lion and dragon dancers, community groups, and other cultural organizations through the city’s historic neighbourhood.

Over 5,000 participants from 70 cultural groups will march alongside government officials and dignitaries, making it a global celebration in welcoming the Year of the Snake.

The three-hour-long parade starts at 11:00 am PST at the Millennium Gate on Pender Street, moves east along Pender Street, turns south onto Gore Street, then west onto Keefer Street and concludes at the intersection of Keefer Street and Carrall Street.

The Lunar New Year is observed by many Asian cultures as a time to start anew and spend with family. This year’s parade falls on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, according to the Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver, one of the event’s key organizers.

It is expected to snow substantially on Sunday; dress warmly and allow for extra travel time. Transit is a great option as the parade route is a short stroll from the Stadium-Chinatown Station on the Expo Line. Numerous road closures are in effect from 8:00 am PST until 5:00 pm PST on Sunday in the blocks along East Hastings Street, Gore Street, East Georgia Street, Keefer Street, as well Abbott Street, West Pender Street and Beatty Street.
