Development progresses on Kingdom Hearts IV, ceases on Missing-Link

It’s been three years after the first trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV was released. Square Enix continues to advance the game’s development, offering a sneak peek at what’s ahead through a collage of newly shared screenshots.

Screenshots show protagonist Sora riding a trail of chains while battling a group of Heartless, an un-named female character, an old rotary phone, King Mickey explording a library, a giant Heartless under attack, Sora wandering a city street, and a close-up of the Keyblade wielder in his new outfit.

A day prior to the Kingdom Hearts IV update, Square Enix made another announcement regarding the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. The mobile game’s launch was originally scheduled to launch in 2024, but was postponed late last year.

Translated, it apologized to everyone who was looking forward to the game. It explained the decision was determined due to difficulties in developing a service that would satisfy users over the long term. The statement ended thanking those who participated in previous beta tests and that Kingdom Hearts would continue with developers hard at work on Kingdom Hearts IV.

Music composer Yoko Shimomura also shared her dismay over the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link. Not only did she compose music for the game, but also participated as a beta tester!

If released, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link would have been free-to-play on Android and Apple iOS devices.
