UBC Apple Festival

Bite into an apple at the UBC Apple Festival this weekend

Celebrate the crisp tree fruit at the 32nd annual UBC Apple Festival, held at the UBC Botanical Gardens between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm on both Saturday, October 14th and Sunday, October 15th, 2023.

The family-friendly event is piled high with more than store-bought varieties, apple-inspired treats, artisan crafts, live entertainment and a chance to wander the lush gardens, all with one admission.

A list of cultivars isn’t ready, but previous years selections have included Aurora Golden Gala, Elstar, Idared, Kidd’s Orange Red, Melrose, Salish (a personal favourite), Topaz and Yataka. All varieties are BC-grown and come in limited quantities — the rarest sell fast! Some pears will make an appearance, adding some juicy variety.

Green thumbs can also purchase saplings to plant at home and share the delicious flavours with their family and friends. There’s also helpful staff on hand to offer tips on how best to support your tree.

Entry to the festival is $10.00 CAD for everyone over the age of eight and available online; children aged seven and under are free, but still require a complimentary ticket. All proceeds from tickets sales are reinvested back into the UBC Botanical Garden.

There is no parking at the gardens, but free shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes between the Botanical Gardens and the West Parkade and the Fraser River Parkade on campus. As always, dress for the weather and remember to bring your reusable bags (maybe a friend or two) to help carry all your yummy treats home.
