The latest Mobile Suit Gundam anime series is coming to the big screen here in Canada beginning Friday, February 28th, 2025. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- is a theatrical cut of the latest series by famed animation studios Studio Khara and Sunrise.
GKIDS Films has secured the film rights for distribution in North America. Cineplex and Landmark Cinema locations across Canada will show the movie in Japanese with English subtitles and dubbed in English; it will also be shown in the larger IMAX format.
GKIDS Films shared a synopsis of the film on its website.
Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- is directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki, with a screenplay written by Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno, music composition by Yoshimasa Terui and Masayuki Hasuo, and animation production by both Studio Khara and Sunrise. It premiered in Japanese theatres on January 17th, 2025.
