The Crunchyroll Anime Awards first took place in 2017 with 12 categories; for 2026, there are 32.
The star-studded event is scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, in Tokyo, Japan. Before the main ceremony begins, Crunchyroll’s own Lauren Moore and Tim Lyu will host the pre-show, while Sally Amaki and Jon Kabira return as presenters for the main event.
One of the evening’s musical events will include a performance of “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis” by Yoko Takahashi to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Hirofumi Kurita, will provide additional music arranged by Kazunori Miyake. Additional musical guests are expected in the coming months.

Public voting opens on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, when the nominees will be revealed. Judges selected titles that aired during the period of January 1st, 2025, through December 31st, 2025.
