New Haikyu!! one-shot to appear in Weekly Shonen Jump next week

Although Haikyu!! ended nearly three-and-a-half years ago, a new one-shot of the hit volleyball manga by Haruichi Furudate will appear in Weekly Shonen Jump, ahead of the movie premiere next month.

The news was shared on the official Haikyu social media channels, describing the one-shot as a 16-page conclusion of the third round match between Karasuno and Nekoma high schools from a different perspective.

Issue 10 of Weekly Shonen Jump goes on sale in Japan on Monday, February 5th, 2024.

Haikyu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle at the Garbage Dump will premiere in Japanese theatres on Friday, February 16th, 2024.

The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (an imprint of Shueisha) between February 20th, 2012 and July 20th, 2020, and published across 45 individual volumes. In North America, Viz Media handled the publication of the English-translated versions in both print and digital formats.

What is a “one-shot?”

Usually when manga artists get their start, their first work is published to gauge reader reactions — favourable responses will usually cement the series for serialization in one of Japan’s many manga magazines, albeit with modifications. One-shots range in length from a single chapter to a full-volume issue, involving side-stories not related with the main plot and seek to flesh out character backgrounds, or as in this case, mark special events.

February 4th, 2024 update
